National Kid’s Safety Poster Contest Winners Announced: Today the National Ski Areas Association (NSAA) announced the winners of the ninth annual National Kid’s Safety Poster Contest. The 2007/08 winners were Lynzi Deeter, 11, representing Snowbasin, Utah, and Larkin Armbruster, 9, representing Vail Mountain, Colo. Wachusett Mountain Operators Honored with Sherman Adams Award
Crowley Family Recognized for Industry Contributions..  The National Ski Areas Association (NSAA) today announced that Massachusetts-based Wachusett Mountain Ski Area operators Carolyn Stimpson, David Crowley and Jeff Crowley have been selected as the recipients of this year’s Sherman Adams Award. The award, named after the former governor of New Hampshire and founder of Loon Mountain, has been presented annually since 1975 to an individual from an Eastern ski area who has significantly influenced the ski industry.  more...

 

National Skier Visits Top 60 Million
Preliminary Report Indicates 2007/08 Season is Best on Record.  Based on preliminary estimates, ski areas nationwide tallied 60.1 million visits for the 2007/08 season, making it the best season on record. The new record represents a 9.1 percent increase from the 55.1 million visits recorded in 2006/07, and a 2.0 percent rise from the prior record of 58.9 million visits set in 2005/06. All regions of the U. S. and resorts of all size categories contributed to the record season. The Northeast realized a 19.3 percent gain over last season, the Midwest rose by 12.3 percent, and the Pacific West improved by 10.0 percent. The Southeast gained a more moderate 6.5 percent and the Rocky Mountains, which set a record in 2006/07, topped that record this season by 2.3 percent.  more...
