NEW: Climate Challenge Grant
NSAA and flaik have partnered to give Climate Challengers the opportunity to receive financial support for GHG reduction initiatives at their ski area.
We are pleased to announce the inaugural grant winners for the 2022/23 ski season: Summit at Snoqualmie, WA, and Timberline Lodge, OR!
Summit at Snoqualmie plans to use their $5,000 grant funds to retrofit lighting in their maintenance shop. Their goal is to reduce energy consumption, remove environmentally unfriendly items from their mountain and improve lighting conditions for the staff. With the new LED lights, Summit at Snoqualmie projects a 60% kWH/year reduction in the shops and a potential GHG emission reduction of more than 8 mtCO2e per year.
Timberline Lodge plans to user their $5,000 grant monies as a part of a larger funding operation to purchase and install a wastewater bioreactor at their on-site brewery. Their goal is to reduce biosolids sent to the landfill, improve local wasterwater treatment and reduce landfill transportation GHG emissions. Timberline estimates a vehicle emissions reduction of 3 mtCO2e per year and a reduction of biogenic emissions of 1.1 mtCO2e per year.
NSAA would like to thank flaik for their support of the Climate Challenge program and contributions to the critical work being done by Climate Challengers. This partnership will enhance and enrich our collective efforts as we work to reduce the impact of climate change on our industry.
